Tyvis Powell remembers the last time his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes captured a national championship game.

In fact, the former Buckeyes safety might have been the chief reason Ohio State celebrated that night in early 2015 as the first national championship squad of the 4-team College Football Playoff era. Powell was named the Defensive MVP of the Buckeyes’ victory over Oregon, collecting 9 tackles to help Ohio State to ultimate glory in the 2014 season.

So, exactly a decade later, here was Powell again, coming to the forefront again for his alma mater but this time as a motivational speaker of sorts. He shared a powerful message to the current Buckeyes as they try to topple Notre Dame in Monday night’s national championship game in Atlanta.

“If you feel a little scared or are worried about something, make sure you look to your left and look to the right and make sure you understand that that guy next to you is a dog, he’s got your back, he’s not going to let you down. Make sure you all do your job. One more to go. Leave no doubt. Leave it on the field this game. Make sure you all bring home that ring and be a legend at Ohio State forever. Finish the job. The job is not finished until the clock hits triple zeroes. Be a champion for the rest of your life. Go Bucks,” Powell said.

These Buckeyes would be advised to listen to Powell, who met the moment with confidence and dominance on that night a decade ago.
