Urban Meyer is still a big Joe Burrow fan. The former Ohio State head coach is happy to see his ex-quarterback doing big things at LSU and in the SEC.

On Monday, Meyer joined The Herd with Colin Cowherd to talk college football, and Burrow was a topic of conversation. The LSU gunslinger had just led the Tigers to an SEC title by downing Georgia 37-10, and he threw for 349 yards and four touchdowns while completing 28-of-38 passes.

That performance, Meyer says, locked up the Heisman Trophy for Burrow.

“He won the Heisman,” Meyer said in a matter-of-fact fashion. “His performance against Georgia — it’s over, as far as I’m concerned.”

Burrow has done some incredible things at LSU this season, throwing for 4,715 yards and 48 touchdowns with just six interceptions this season. He led the Tigers to a perfect 13-0 record, the team’s first College Football Playoff appearance and an SEC title.

Meyer says he’s thrilled for the kid he used to coach in Columbus.

“I’m just awful happy for him,” Meyer said. “We had him as a freshman, he was not a highly-recruited player. …It was heartbreaking when Joe left because we all love Joe.”

Burrow spent three seasons at Ohio State before deciding to transfer to LSU. In a crowded quarterback room with guys like J.T. Barrett, Dwayne Haskins and Tate Martell, it was difficult for Burrow to get on the field in Columbus.

His decision to head to Baton Rouge and establish himself as a starting quarterback worked out extremely well for him and the Tigers.
