Urban Meyer may no longer be coaching Dwayne Haskins, but that doesn’t mean he’s done lauding over his former star quarterback.

Recently, Meyer joined The Herd with Colin Cowherd to talk about Haskins and his adjustment in the NFL. The former Ohio State quarterback has played in two of Washington’s preseason games, and there’s been some good and some bad early on.

None of the bad really concerns Meyer, though.

Cowherd asked Meyer to expound upon the skills that Haskins brings to the NFL. That’s when the former Ohio State leader got to share some serious praise on the rookie quarterback from the days in Columbus.

“Dwayne Haskins is the most accurate passer I’ve ever had, and that includes Alex Smith [at Utah],” Meyer said. “He only played one year, however his accuracy, arm strength, they’re all NFL style.”

Haskins was considered one of the top quarterback prospects of the 2018 NFL Draft class, and was even thought to be the best in the draft. He slipped a bit on draft day, falling to No. 14 to the Washington Redskins.

Meyer continued to compliment his former quarterback, saying that what matters most for Haskins is who is playing around him. If there are good players in Washington, the rookie will be just fine.

“I’m telling you, he’s good enough to get the ball there,” Meyer said. “As far as a quick learner, he’s a brilliant guy…his ability to identify the defense, flip the protection to get the blitz picked up was about as good as we’ve been around.

“The question is what’s surrounding him, what kind of players are surrounding him.”
