You might look at the two records and think Ohio State will cruise to an easy win over Purdue on Saturday night in Ross-Ade Stadium. The Buckeyes are already a two-touchdown favorite.

But the Boilermakers may present a difficult challenge this weekend, particularly with how well the offense has been playing. And Urban Meyer is well-aware of Purdue’s effectiveness on that side of the football.

“I haven’t talked to the defensive staff yet, but I’ve seen the stats,” Meyer said of Purdue at his weekly press conference. “They’re really good.”

Purdue’s offense ranks second in the B1G, right behind Ohio State. The Boilermakers are averaging 510.2 yards per game this season and 33.5 points per game.

And the Boilermakers have been much more effective since starting quarterback David Blough, who has thrown 10 touchdowns to just two interceptions over the last four games.

Ohio State’s defense has faired well against some of the better offenses it’s faced this season. The Buckeyes held Penn State to just 26 points a few weeks ago and limited TCU to 28 points back in September. But Purdue might be one of the better passing teams in the B1G, at least statistically.

“This will be a big challenge for us this week,” Meyer said.

The defense will have its hands full on Saturday in Ross-Ade Stadium.
