Urban Meyer expects a great game in Columbus in Week 1.

In a wide-ranging interview with Dan Dakich on Don’t At Me, Meyer was asked to share his thoughts on No. 5 Notre Dame at No. 2 Ohio State. Dakich asked Meyer if he thinks the Irish can hang with the defending Rose Bowl champions.

“I think they can,” Meyer said of the Irish, per 247Sports. “I’ve watched a lot of their tape. Marcus Freeman played at Ohio State, I know him a little bit. Great person, everybody respects him. He’s 36 years old, head coach at Notre Dame. He lost in the bowl game and here he goes into Ohio Stadium. That’s a tough two first two games. I think Notre Dame’s very talented. I think (Irish offensive coordinator Tommy) Rees does a really good job on offense. I think it’s going to be a great game.”

Thought Notre Dame-Ohio State would seemingly be a perfect game for Meyer to return to The Shoe with the Big Noon Kickoff crew, it’s actually a primetime clash on ABC. Kickoff for the top-5 showdown is set for 7:30 p.m.
