Urban Meyer has been one of the harshest critics of the early signing period since the idea was brought to the table. But now, as Ohio State currently works on bringing in the top-ranked recruiting class, he’s singing a slightly different tune.

Wednesday morning, Meyer met with the media to talk about some of the prospects who took advantage of the early signing period. He also discussed the positives and negatives of the December date.

Though Meyer is still skeptical about some of the problems this may cause down the road, he seems to be much more open-minded about an early signing date.

Here are a few of his thoughts and takeaways from the first early signing period:

Ohio State currently has the best recruiting class in the B1G and in the country according to 247Sports. Clearly, a new signing period hasn’t affected the Buckeyes on the recruiting trail too much just yet.

When the whole thing comes to an end in February, it’ll be interesting to see what Meyer has to say about the future outlook of recruiting and whether or not this early signing period is good for the sport and its players and coaches.
