Urban Meyer: 'We haven't played close to our best game'
Ohio State is 5-0, has wins over two top 25 teams and has one of the highest-scoring offenses in college football. Despite all that, Urban Meyer believes his team still hasn’t played its best game of the season.
That’s kind of a scary thought.
Saturday night, the Buckeyes pulled off a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Penn State, knocking off then-No. 9 Penn State 27-26. It was a monumental win for Ohio State, giving it a much clearer path to the B1G Championship and CFB Playoff.

Maybe it wasn’t the best performance of the season, but it certainly was the best eight minutes of football Ohio State has put together this season.
During his weekly press conference, Meyer said that, despite all the success his team has enjoyed, he doesn’t believe it has played its best game yet. Keep in mind, the Buckeyes have knocked off both TCU and Penn State — and both games were away from Columbus — and are averaging 49 points per game.
“We’re 5-0 and we haven’t played close to our best game,” Meyer said.
Meyer went on to say that the TCU game might’ve been the best performance of the five games the Buckeyes have played. He called Saturday night’s bout with Penn State “two sledgehammers going against each other.”
Ohio State still has seven games remaining on the schedule, but the two most difficult challenges, at least on paper right now, are in the rearview mirror. The Buckeyes still travel to No. 20 Michigan State (Nov. 10) and end the season with No. 15 Michigan (Nov. 24).
It’s hard to imagine Ohio State playing much better than it has through the first five weeks of the season. If they have yet to play their best game, there’s nobody in the B1G that can beat the Buckeyes.
