Utah is doing its best to ruin Ohio State’s day.

On Thursday, Utah flipped four-star cornerback Clark Phillips in a surprising Early Signing Period move. The California native had been committed to Ohio State since June and was expected to be a key member of the Buckeyes’ third-ranked class.

But on the second day of the Early Signing Period, Phillips had a change of heart and committed to the Utes. He was the highest-ranked commit in Utah’s class, coming in as the No. 47 overall player and No. 4 corner of the cycle, according to 247Sports.

That flip was enough to sour some moods in Columbus. Then, Utah decided to throw a little shade at Ohio State with a tweet following Phillips’ commitment.

“THE University of Utah,” the school sent out in a tweet.

Obviously, that message was a poke at the Buckeyes’ constant reference to “THE Ohio State University.”

It was a response from Utah that drew plenty of attention, especially considering Ohio State University attempted to trademark the word “the” for merchandising earlier this year. The Buckeyes may never live that down.

Utah decided to rub a little salt in the wound on Thursday. But Ohio State shouldn’t be too concerned, it still has one of the best 2020 recruiting classes in college football.
