Terry McLaurin has been the top receiver for the Washington Commanders since getting drafted in 2019. Now entering the final year of his rookie contract, McLaurin is reportedly in search of a new contract with Washington.
To open the week, McLaurin was not in attendance for the team’s mandatory minicamp. With his absence not excused by the team, head coach Ron Rivera discussed the situation with reporters Wednesday morning.
Rivera said the team has been working with McLaurin’s camp over the past week, and he believes a deal will be completed “in a matter of time.” He also said the meetings have never been contentious.
During any contract situation, rumors of a potential trade are bound to swirl, but Rivera put any idea of that down quickly. He plainly claimed that Washington will not be trading McLaurin and that the team still believes in what he brings to the table.
Rivera on McLaurin talks: “We’ve been talking with his folks the last week & working on stuff and hopefully taken care of in a matter of time. How much time? Don’t know. It’s never been contentious… Feeling good and confident that at some time this will get done.”
