The Washington Commanders elected not to exercise star defensive end Chase Young’s 5th year option, meaning the former Ohio State standout will become a free agent next season.
Young was limited last season while recovering from an ACL tear, but has shown he can be a force in the NFL. He was the 2020 NFL Defensive rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowler in 2020 as well.
This is huge for a few reasons. For one, Young could be in for a massive year looking to bump his stock for a larger contract next offseason. It also means, if Young wanted, he could be out of Washington after this season.
The Commanders are not going to exercise DE Chase Young’s fifth-year option, per sources.
