After dominated in Columbus, Spielman was drafted in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, where he spent 8 seasons. Spielman had success at the next level as well, going to 4 pro bowls, was a 3-time all-pro and accumulating 1,181 total tackles.

The 6-foot tackling machine also played for the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns as well, but he spent his most time with the Lions. Since his playing days — and brief coaching stint in the Arena Football League — Spielman is now an NFL analyst at FOX.

Spielman was broadcasting the Detroit Lions-Green Bay Packers game when it was announced that $10,000 was given to the Stephanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. Stephanie was Chris’ wife, but she ultimately lost her battle with cancer in 2009.

Jen McCollum, the senior director of community relations for the Detroit Lions, announced the donation during the broadcast. As expected, Spielman was gracious and thanked the Lions for the thoughtful donation.
