Ohio State sure is hoping the experts are right.
Despite owning two losses, several college football analysts believe the Buckeyes have a legitimate shot to still crack into the College Football Playoff picture if they defeat Wisconsin in next week’s B1G Championship Game. One analyst in particular provided a great explanation as to why OSU still has an decent chance to finish in the top four.
ESPN’s Heather Dinich recently made an appearance on SportsCenter and outlined why the Buckeyes are still in contention and how they have a better argument than even mighty Alabama.
“Alabama’s résumé comes under the microscope for those 13 (committee members),” Dinich said. “Entering that Auburn game, it was 62nd in the country in strength of schedule. You look at Ohio State, it would be coming off a top four win against the only undefeated Power Five team in the country remaining. That’s better than anything Alabama has on its current résumé.
“Add to that, people forget (Ohio State) beat a ranked Penn State team, a ranked Michigan State. Now, would that outweigh giving up 55 points to Iowa? Two losses, also losing to Oklahoma? Look, just because you’re Alabama doesn’t mean you get in. I think the (selection committee) would lean towards the Buckeyes.”
Dinich makes a pretty compelling argument for Ohio State, despite the two losses. But would a win be enough to get in?
The Buckeyes can certainly makes things interesting by beating Wisconsin in Indianapolis next Saturday.
