Urban Meyer is a confident guy. That’s just one reason why he’s been so successful on the coaching circuit at every stop during his career.
The former Ohio State head coach is still pretty confident when it comes to the Buckeyes’ football program. So confident, in fact, that he doesn’t mind throwing a little shade at opposing teams every now and then. That includes Penn State, which comes into Columbus for a marquee showdown with Ohio State on Saturday.
In a recent promotional video for the clash of B1G East powers, Meyer was building up the intensity of the game, which has B1G and College Football Playoff implications on the line. In doing so, it sounds like he’s throwing a little shade at Penn State.
Here’s the video Meyer tweeted out this week:

“The Penn State-Ohio State rivalry is one that, for the last seven years that I’ve been around has been extremely intense,” Meyer said. “Even though it’s not our (Ohio State’s) rivalry, it’s – from everything I understand – we’ve become their rival.”
Meyer went on to say that both programs are great and that it’s been a battle of top 10 teams each of the last three years. But that quote about “we’ve become their rival,” may rub some Penn Staters the wrong way.
It could add just a little extra fuel to the fire for Saturday’s big game.
