Shaun Wade doesn’t care about providing Northwestern with any bulletin board material. The Ohio State cornerback knows what his team needs to do this weekend as the Buckeyes prepare to play the Wildcats in the B1G Championship Game.
Tuesday, Wade and other players met with the media to talk about this weekend’s matchup with the conference title on the line. And with Ohio State’s College Football Playoff hopes at stake, Wade wants to send a clear message to the selection committee.
“Like I’ve been telling a lot of my teammates, we’ve got to blow them out,” Wade said on Tuesday. “We need to show the world what we can do.”
Ohio State has a shorter resume than most teams in contention, thanks to a late start and multiple cancellations this season. The Buckeyes have seen games against Maryland, Illinois and Michigan wiped off the docket due to pandemic-related issues this year. Currently, OSU sits at 5-0.
Teams like Clemson, Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida, Texas A&M, Cincinnati and others in contention have essentially played twice as many games as Ohio State. There is no room for error.
Many believe that a simple win over Northwestern would be enough for Ohio State to lock up a spot in the College Football Playoff this year. But a blowout victory on Saturday would all but solidify a bid to compete for a national title.
