Will Howard had a return to Pennsylvania with Ohio State’s game against Penn State circled for some time. Unfortunately, he had a start to forget on Saturday.

On Ohio State’s very first drive, the Buckeyes faced a 3rd-and-medium and tried to throw a slant to Jeremiah Smith. Penn State’s defense jumped the route, and it went back the opposite way for a pick-6 as Penn State built a quick 10-0 lead.

Fortunately, Howard bounced back immediately. He was efficient with a 3-for-3 passing effort for 34 yards and converting a 3rd-and-short with his legs.

The big play of the game came from Howard as he found veteran Emeka Egbuka streaking down the sideline. He Egbuka was able to get behind a confused defense with Howard dropping a beautiful pass in the basket.

After Penn State held the ball for 8 minutes on the opening drive and a quick pick-6 by Howard, a sustained drive was crucial for more than one reason. Trailing by more than 10 points would have also appeared lethal to the Buckeyes in this one, so Howard’s efficient answer is a major boost and an encouraging sign for Ohio State’s offense.
