Will Howard says Buckeyes 'beat ourselves' in first matchup against Oregon
Will Howard briefly met with reporters on Sunday night to discuss Ohio State’s upcoming matchup with Oregon in the College Football Playoff.
Howard, of course, was asked about Ohio State’s narrow defeat to the Ducks earlier this season. Oregon outlasted Ohio State 32-31 in Eugene back in October.
From Howard’s perspective, though, the Buckeyes beat themselves in that game.
“I just look at it and I think, ‘I don’t think anyone this year beat us,'” Howard said. “I think we beat ourselves every time … we had the turnover on our own 20-yard line and they got the [onside] kick. That’s 2 possessions and we’re still in the first half.
“And obviously the way the game ended and we’re still 1 point away. That’s what hurts.”
Here’s video of Howard’s comments:

In addition to the lost possessions Howard referred to, the game ended in heartbreaking fashion for Howard as the clock ran out as he was trying to gain extra yardage for a go-ahead field goal attempt.
Aside from the mistakes, Howard put up good numbers against Oregon in the first matchup. He completed 28-of-35 passes for 326 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Buckeyes will hope to get their revenge when these teams kickoff on New Year’s Day at 5 p.m. ET.
