Penn State coach James Franklin surprised everyone last week when he tweaked his game-week ritual of tweeting out the name of Penn State’s upcoming opponent as many times as possible.

This year, Franklin will simply tweet out “1-0” in a similar series each week.

On Tuesday, Franklin explained the change. He essentially said it was due to some people — perhaps opposing fans — misunderstanding the meaning of his old message.

“I don’t want other people misinterpreting what we’re talking about,” Franklin told reporters at his weekly press conference on Tuesday.

Penn State is coming off a huge victory at Wisconsin in Week 1. The Nittany Lions’ defense powered Franklin’s squad to a 16-10 win over the Badgers and put them in prime position to compete for the Big Ten East this season.

Quarterback Sean Clifford also looked improved under new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich, particularly in the second half. He completed 18-of-33 passes for 247 yards and 1 touchdown vs. the Badgers.

Penn State hosts Ball State in Week 2.
