Jahan Dotson, KJ Hamler, and DaeSean Hamilton are the most recent examples of explosive wide receivers for Penn State, but those players are just continuing to build on the legacies of wide receivers from the past.

Among those former stars are Chris Godwin and Allen Robinson, both turning into solid NFL contributors and both looking to ink new contracts in 2021. According to the free-agent rankings put out by Pro Football Focus, Godwin (No. 2 overall) and Robinson (No. 3 overall) are among the best free agents available this offseason. Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is No. 1 overall.

Godwin is in his fourth NFL season and his season is still ongoing with Tampa Bay advancing to the NFC Championship Game. Despite battling a few injuries this season, Godwin has appeared in 12 games and has 840 receiving yards to go with seven touchdowns.

Godwin’s receiving yardage is the lowest since his rookie season, but he has played a part in a star-studded offense for the Buccaneers. Considering he has split targets with Mike Evans, Rob Gronkowski, and Antonio Brown, Godwin has been effective and remains a good option moving forward.

Robinson wrapped up his seventh NFL season with back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons. He finished 2020 with 1,250 yards – the second-highest total of his career – and six touchdowns. Considering the offensive issues of the Chicago Bears, those numbers are certainly admirable.

Robinson played for Penn State from 2011-13, finishing fourth on the school’s all-time list with 2,479 yards receiving. Godwin followed Robinson, playing for the Nittany Lions from 2014-16. He finished fifth on the school’s all-time list with 2,421 yards receiving.

Where will these two suit up next season?
