It wasn’t all good news for Penn State on Friday.

The big news for the Nittany Lions came with a new six-year extension for head coach James Franklin. While it is true Penn State has missed out on the B1G Championship the past couple of seasons, there’s no denying the talent level and direction of the program continue to be on the rise.

Unfortunately, the Nittany Lions did lose one commitment Friday afternoon. It came from three-star safety Elijah Gaines out of Alexandria, Virginia. In a note Gaines shared on Twitter, he cited “some unfortunate circumstances” as to the reason for his decommitment.

Gaines is listed as the No. 45 safety nationally by the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. He has received offers from Purdue, Wisconsin, Rutgers, and Michigan, along with a host of ACC schools.
