4-star 2023 edge defender decommits from Penn State

Penn State’s highest-rated 2023 defensive pledge has backed off his commitment to James Franklin’s program. On Sunday morning, Neeo Avery announced his decommitment from Penn State to fully reopen his recruitment.
Avery was the highest-rated defender in Penn State’s 2023 class before his decommitment. Listed at 6-5, 230 pounds, the 247Sports Composite rates Avery 4-stars, the No. 6 Maryland product, No. 20 edge defender and No. 256 prospect overall nationally in the class of 2023 with a Composite score of 0.9101, which made him the highest-rated 2023 defender committed until Sunday.

After announcing his decommitment, Avery shared on Twitter that he has new scholarship offers from Southern Cal, Miami, UConn, North Carolina, Louisville and Jackson State. Leading up to his New Year’s Eve commitment to Penn State, Avery had 17 scholarship offers, including Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State.
