Andy Kotelnicki shared plenty of personality on Friday, as he was introduced to the media as the new Penn State offensive coordinator explained his philosophy.

Kotelnicki came from Kansas, and previously coached with Lance Leipold at Wisconsin Whitewater (2013-14) and at Buffalo (2015-20).

But Kotelnicki has long had his sights on the Nittany Lions, even as a kid in Minnesota.  He became a Penn State fan because he had a white helmet with a blue stripe, and later saw the Nittany Lions on TV, or in the newspaper. Even though Kotelnicki was an offensive lineman, he imitated Curtis Enis as a kid.

As for his philosophy, Kotelnicki said he wants the offense to be like a Dairy Queen Blizzard, and players master the base offense, such as the vanilla ice cream. Once that is mastered, toppings can be added.

During the transition process and the bowl game, the new OC said following the Peach Bowl, the focus on the QB room will collectively involve himself, James Franklin and graduate assistant Danny O’Brien.

He shared that O’Brien’s personal experience as a QB and their planned approach at that position as “NFL-like.”
