AP voter explains why he left Penn State out of his Top 25 ballot
The 2019 regular season is about to begin and every fan is wondering where their favorite team will end up at the end of the season.
Before that, though, the entire season has to be played. The AP Preseason top 25 poll came out the other day and Penn State clocked in at No. 15. Some AP voters of course put the Nittany Lions higher than 15 and other had them lower.

For Jon Wilner, an AP voter of the San Jose Mercury News, he left the Nittany Lions outside his top 25 completely. Roar Lion Roar interviewed him — among other AP voters — about why he has Penn State where he does:
“My preseason poll is a rough projection of how I think everything will shake out in the end, and I expect a handful of losses for Penn State based on the combination of McSorley’s departure, the division, and the road schedule.”
Wilner’s reasoning isn’t crazy here. And honestly, AP voters vote under different idea systems. For Wilner, he does it as a projection of what’s to come. For others, they may vote teams based on who they think is the best No. 1 to No. 25 from a talent perspective.
We’ll see the Nittany Lions in action on Aug. 31 at home against Idaho.
