Penn State will have its starting quarterback back for a 6th year, but with a growing quarterback room and an entrenched starter, it’s losing a young signal-caller to the transfer portal.

Quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson intends to transfer and will be putting his name into the transfer portal. He announced the news Monday morning via Twitter.

Roberson will have 3 year of eligibility remaining after 3 years with the Nittany Lion program. He made 6 appearances for Penn State, with 4 coming this season. He went 11-for-28 passing with 85 yards and a touchdown.

With Christian Veilleux taking over the backup job and Sean Clifford returning for his final year of eligibility, Penn State already has answers atop its quarterback depth chart even before winter conditioning gets underway. Add to that the incoming 2022 recruiting class, which features 5-star quarterback Drew Allar and 3-star quarterback Beau Pribula, and the Nittany Lions will have a full room.

Roberson was a 4-star prospect out of the 2019 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite. The New Jersey native was the 8th-best dual-threat quarterback in his class and the 274th overall prospect in the cycle.
