Penn State’s backfield will have a new look on Saturday.

The Lions will be without both Akeel Lynch and Saquon Barkley for Saturday’s game against Army. The two tailbacks were both injured in the second quarter last week against San Diego State and did not return.

It’s an unfortunate setback for Barkley, who already has two B1G Freshman of the Week honors. Barkley racked up 373 yards on just 42 carries in three games in James Frankin’s offensive rotation.

The combination of Lynch and Barkley produced 6.98 yards per carry this season. Without them, the Lions will turn to Nick Scott and Mark Allen to take on the majority of the backfield work.

Linebacker Brandon Bell was also ruled out.

Christian Hackenberg is coming off his best game of the season, which saw him throw for 296 yards and three touchdowns. He might need another game like that for Penn State to earn its fourth straight win.
