A potential return to the NFL continues to be mentioned for ex-Penn State coach and current Alabama OC Bill O’Brien.

After getting fired by the Houston Texans in 2020, O’Brien landed on Nick Saban’s Alabama staff as the OC of the Crimson Tide for 2021. O’Brien helped guide Alabama to an SEC title and College Football Playoff appearance with Crimson Tide QB Bryce Young capturing the Heisman Trophy.

Now, O’Brien continues to draw interest from NFL teams whether it be for a head coaching job or offensive coordinator job. The latest comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

According to Schefter, O’Brien would likely become a target to fill the OC spot for the New England Patriots if Josh McDaniels leaves for the head coaching job of the Las Vegas Raiders. O’Brien previously served on Bill Belichick’s staff from 2007-11 and served as the OC before leaving for the Penn State job in 2012.

It will be interesting to see how things work out this offseason, but a return to the NFL continues to pick up a bit of steam for O’Brien.
