Carey Booth, 4-star 2023 PF, announces B1G commitment
Carey Booth, 4-star power forward from the recruiting class of 2023, has announced his commitment. With offers from all across the country and from multiple conferences, literally, Booth has decided to make his commitment to the Nittany Lions of Penn State.
This is a commitment that made sense for many of the prognosticators because the 4-star’s father, Calvin Booth, also played at Penn State. The elder booth, who was drafted by the Washington Wizards in the 199 NBA Draft and still finds himself in the NBA but in a different role — he’s currently the General Manager of the Denver Nuggets — is still PSU’s all-time blocks leader with 428.
Those are huge shoes for Carey Booth to live up to, and it sounds he initially wasn’t into the idea of going to Penn State because of that very reason. He told 247Sports that he initially wanted to blaze his own trail, but Penn State never gave up and Micah Shrewsberry and his staff eventually out-recruited everyone else.
“Honestly, when Penn State first started recruiting me, I didn’t think I would go there because I wanted to separate myself from my dad and pave my own path,” he said, “but I was just really impressed with how they recruited me and showed me how I would fit in their system.”

The elder booth also thinks the 4-star power forward will be able to distinguish himself at Penn State.
“They were very detailed and cognizant that Carey wanted to have his own distinct experience, separate from my own,” Calvin Booth said. “People will see pretty quickly that his playing style is way different from mine anyway.”
According to 247Sports, Booth is the No. 17 power forward as well as the No. 90 player nationally.
