Penn State and Indiana are headed to overtime after a critical mistake by a Nittany Lion.

Leading 21-20 with under two minutes to go, running back Devyn Ford scored a touchdown rather than running out the clock.

Ford appeared to hesitate as he crossed the goal line as Penn State coach James Franklin was instructing him not to score. Alas, it was too late.

That decision allowed Indiana to get the ball back and march down the field to be able to tie the game.

Improbably, that’s exactly what the Hoosiers did. Indiana quarterback Michael Penix led an incredible drive that ended with a 1-yard TD run with 22 seconds remaining.

Penix then ran in the 2-point conversion to tie it up at 28-all and send it to overtime.

The Nittany Lions did have one final chance to win it in regulation, but missed a 57-yard field goal — their third field goal miss of the day.

Penn State is 22-1 all-time in this series
