Drew Allar struggled through Penn State’s Orange Bowl matchup vs. Notre Dame. However, one play in particular will haunt the quarterback a bit longer than the others.

That would be his interception that Allar threw with less than a minute remaining in the game. After the Nittany Lion defense got the stop it was searching for, Allar threw a pivotal pick that allowed the Fighting Irish time to get into range for the game-winning field goal.

Afterward, Allar was asked what went into his decision. He admitted he was trying to fit something to Omari Evans near the feet of the receiver, but Allar knows he should have just thrown the ball away in that situation.

“I was going through my progressions, got to the backside and honestly I was just trying to throw it at his feet. I should have just thrown it away when I felt the first 2 progressions weren’t open just because of the situation we were in, but I was just trying to throw it at Omari’s feet,” explained Allar. “I just didn’t execute what I was trying to do.”

Unfortunately for Allar, lack of execution was a recurring theme in this one. He was just 12-for-23 passing the ball for 135 yards with the interception, and he had 2 other interceptions get overturned via questionable penalties.

His final questionable decision of the game proved to be fatal with Notre Dame advancing to the national championship game to face the winner of Ohio State-Texas.
