Drew Allar intends to return to Penn State for 2025
Drew Allar, who has led Penn State to lofty heights in 2024, will be back for more in 2025.
The Nittany Lions star quarterback informed the school’s coaching staff that he intends to return for his senior year next fall instead of heading to the 2025 NFL Draft in the spring. Allar has gone 21-5 as the starter in Happy Valley and right away gives Penn State a shot in the arm for next season that wasn’t guaranteed.
On Monday morning, Allar took to social media to post a personal message regarding his return next season.
“I know there’s still more work to do which is why I look forward to making more memories with my teammates this year and beyond,” wrote Allar in part of his message to Nittany Lions fans.

The 6-foot-5, 238-pound Allar made significant strides in his 2nd season as the Penn State starter in 2024, and he’s got the Nittany Lions in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. Allar completed 224 of 324 passes for 2,894 yards and 21 touchdowns to just 7 interceptions this season, and he rushed 72 times for 279 yards and 6 touchdowns.
The decision also makes some sense considering the recent announcement made by backup QB Beau Pribula. Instead of remaining with the team, Pribula has stepped away to enter the transfer portal and look at his options.
If Allar was likely to enter the draft, Pribula would have probably stuck around for the ensuing QB battle in the spring. With Allar returning, Pribula would not have a realistic shot at the starting job in 2025.
Allar will be under center this Saturday afternoon as 6th-seeded Penn State hosts 11th-seeded SMU in a first-round Playoff game. Kickoff will be shortly after noon ET on TNT.
