Eric Dickerson is one of the best running backs in NFL history. With his final season in 1993, the RB still holds the NFL record for most rushing yards as a rookie, most rushing yards in a playoff game, and most rushing yards in a single season.

The latter of those records is in danger of being broken, however. Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley has 1,838 yards with 2 games left to play, meaning Barkley needs to average 134 yards in each of his final games to break Dickerson’s record.

Dickerson was asked about Barkley potentially breaking his longstanding record in a conversation with the LA Times, and he didn’t mince words.

“I don’t think he’ll break it. But if he breaks it, he breaks it,” said Dickerson. “Do I want him to break it? Absolutely not. I don’t pull no punches on that. But I’m not whining about it.”

Notably, Dickerson set the record in 16 games, but the NFL now features a 17-game schedule.

“He had 17 games to do it? Hey, football is football. That’s the way I look at it. If he’s fortunate to get over 2,000 yards and get the record, it’s a great record to have,” Dickerson explained.

Only 8 players have ever broken the 2,000-yard mark, with Adrian Peterson coming just 8 yards shy of Dickerson’s record in 2012. Unfortunately for Dickerson, Barkley has 2 of the best possible opponents to end the season if he plans on breaking the record.

Barkley’s Eagles will face the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. The Cowboys have the No. 27 run defense and the Giants have the No. 31 unit. Barkley would likely love nothing more than to break the record against his former team, the Giants, to end the season.

The former Penn State star has been electric in his first season away from the Giants and has shown no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
