Former Penn State offensive lineman Anthony Whigan has announced he’ll be transferring to Akron. He posted his decision on Twitter Monday.

Whigan decided to enter his name into the transfer portal following the conclusion of the 2021 season. The 6-foot-4, 315-pound offensive lineman has one year of eligibility to use with the Zips.

Whigan transferred to Penn State after spending two years at Lackawanna Community College. He joined the Nittany Lions ahead of the 2019 season.

Whigan appeared in 18 career games for the Nittany Lions, primarily on special teams. He played in 2 contests in 2019, maintaining a redshirt status for that year. He appeared in all 8 contests during the 2020 season and last year saw action in 7 games.

Akron is in the middle of a coaching change, hiring former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead to lead the program. Last year, the Zips closed the year with a 2-10 record.
