After spending three seasons with Penn State, Will Levis decided it was time to explore other opportunities. Following the 2020 season, the redshirt sophomore quarterback entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal to look for a new home.
Levis found one in Lexington.
Kentucky was able to land Levis out of the transfer portal and bolster its quarterback room. Now, wearing a new shade of blue on his uniform, the former Nittany Lion is looking forward to the opportunity as a Wildcat.
But why Kentucky?
“I think that if I’m able to succeed in a conference like (the SEC), that only helps my case to be able to play at the next level,” Levis said on the Behind Kentucky Football podcast. “I want to play the best teams and I want to beat the best teams and I want to play for the best team. So, being able to play for Kentucky after having really solid seasons the past few years. Three bowl games in a row.”
Levis also said he was able to make strong connections with the staff. That also played a major role in his decision to transfer from Penn State to Kentucky.
“I instantly hit it off with (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Liam) Coen and Coach (Mark) Stoops and just being able to talk to all of them and their philosophy and what they believe in,” Clifford said. “Just what they’re bringing in with the offense and how they approach the program as a whole. I bought it and I really believe in them and they believed in me.”
Clifford appeared in 8 games at Penn State last fall, throwing for 421 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for 260 yards and 3 additional scores. He’s looking to win the starting job in Lexington from the start.
