Former Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley received bad news on Tuesday. The ex-Nittany Lion was released from the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad.

The QB began the 2023 season with the New England Patriots. However, McSorley was waived during final cut downs in August and remained unsigned until October. McSorley then latched on with the Chicago Bears before being released again in November.

At the beginning of December, the QB landed in Pittsburgh with the Steelers. The QB had been on the practice squad for the last month before being released on Tuesday.

McSorley had a successful career with the Nittany Lions. The QB played in 46 collegiate games and threw for 9,899 yards over that span. That mark puts McSorley No. 2 in Penn State history in career passing yards, behind only Sean Clifford. McSorley also set the single-season passing yards record at Penn State in 2016 after throwing for 3,614 yards.

The QB was drafted in the 6th round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. McSorley was the third-string QB in Baltimore for 2 seasons before landing with the Arizona Cardinals in 2021. McSorley will now be looking for a 6th NFL team after his latest release.
