Former Penn State tight end Theo Johnson scored his 1st NFL touchdown on Sunday for the New York Giants. Johnson caught a pass late in the 4th quarter and took it in for a 35-yard score.

The big pass-catcher had to reach to snag the pass and then leaped into the end zone for the score.

Before the score, the Giants were trailing 27-16. The score made it 27-22, and the Giants decided to go for 2 to make it a 3-point game. The conversion failed, however, and the Giants went on to lose 27-22.

Even with another loss, Johnson was a bright spot for the Giants. The rookie TE caught 3 passes for 51 yards and a TD. On the season, Johnson now has 17 catches for 201 yards and 1 TD. The former Nittany Lion along with fellow rookie Malik Nabers are young weapons the Giants hope to build around for the future.

Johnson came into the NFL after being selected in the 4th round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The Canadian-born TE spent 4 seasons at Penn State and caught 77 passes for 938 yards and 12 TDs as a Nittany Lion. Johnson split time with fellow TE Tyler Warren in 2023 and was considered one of the top TEs in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Johnson’s Giants have struggled mightily in 2024. The team is now 2-7 after falling to the Washington Commanders on Sunday. The team’s next matchup will be in Week 10 against the Carolina Panthers.
