The Cotton Bowl takes place each year and is one of the more respected bowl games at the end of every season. This time around, Penn State is taking on Memphis.
Penn State finished at 10-2 during the regular season, while Memphis enters with a 12-1 record. The game will kickoff at noon ET on Saturday, Dec. 28 and will be televised on ESPN.

The Cotton Bowl is sponsored by Goodyear. And on Friday, the day before the game, it unveiled its life-size mascot tire art for Penn State’s nittany lion and Memphis’ tiger.

These are absolutely awesome. The Nittany Lion looks slick and intimidating, while the details of the Tiger are just stunning. Hats off to Blake McFarland and Goodyear.
“Goodyear’s annual tire art build has quickly become a beloved tradition for the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic,” said Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic president and CEO Rick Baker, in a press release. “Our ongoing collaboration with Goodyear continues to enhance the Cotton Bowl Classic experience every year for players and fans alike, and we look forward to creating more memories together.”
Here’s McFarland on the project, in which he only had 15 days to complete due to the timing of the announcement of the teams:
“That’s what makes it so difficult on my end,” McFarland said. “It’s around the clock work for two weeks (…) What I try and do with every sculpture is hide how they’re attached. You shouldn’t be able to see a single screw, or a single nail because I really, really try to hide how they’re all connected.”
We can only hope that the game turns out to be as good as how these look.
