Green Bay Packers add former Penn State OC, Maryland assistant to staff
Former Penn State offensive coordinator John Donovan is on the move. Donovan is joining the Green Bay Packers’ staff as a senior analyst working with the defense.
Donovan arrives at Green Bay from the University of Washington, where he was the Huskies offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the last 2 seasons (2020-21). Donovan has familiarity coaching in the NFL. Prior to being Washington’s OC, Donovan was an offensive assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2016-19, working with the tight ends in 2016, the quarterbacks in 2017-18 and the running backs in 2019.
Donovan was on James Franklin’s staff at Vanderbilt as offensive coordinator from 2011-to-2013, also coaching the Commodores running backs. He followed Franklin to Penn State as the Nittany Lions offensive coordinator for 2014 and ’15 while working with the tight ends.
The Packers finalized their coaching staff with the addition of John Donovan as a senior analyst. He will work on the defensive side.
The long-time college assistant has previous NFL experience with the Jaguars (2016-2019).
Donovan was also an offensive at Maryland from 2005-to-2010, coaching running backs (2005, 2008-10) and quarterbacks (2006-07).
