Christian Hackenberg’s Penn State career could be over.

The junior quarterback had was ruled out for the rest of the TaxSlayer Bowl after suffering an apparent shoulder injury in the first half. The Lions will have to overcome a two-touchdown deficit to Georgia without their third-year starter.

Hackenberg tried to stay in following a hit that resulted in him landing on his throwing shoulder:

He actually completed three of his next four passes for 75 yards, but he was in noticeable pain and couldn’t stay in. Replacing him was Trace McSorley, who appeared in five different games as a freshman this season.

Hackenberg finished the afternoon with 139 passing yards and one interception on a missed screen play to Saquon Barkley.

Hackenberg will have a decision to make following Saturday’s game if he wants to forgo his final season of eligibility and declare for the NFL draft.
