Here's everything that Penn State DC Manny Diaz said following spring practice
Penn State DC Manny Diaz spoke to the media after practice on Wednesday. He talked about a variety of things.
Diaz was hired by Penn State as DC following a stint at Miami as head coach from 2018 to 2021, where he had a 21-15 record. This spring he has had the opportunity to work with the defense including some of the non-enrollee freshmen such as Dani Dennis-Sutton and Abdul Carter.
He also discussed DE Adisa Isaac. Isaac wasn’t able to play all of last season due to an undisclosed injury he suffered in August of 2021. Isaac is returning for another year in Happy Valley, and Diaz has been very impressed so far.
Diaz has also had to adjust to talking to the signees who aren’t on campus yet via zoom, but has said that the meetings have been very useful. He also talked about the differences between being a head coach and a positional coach. The team plans on having its 1st scrimmage on Friday according to Diaz as well.
This is what Diaz had to say to the media:
Here’s what Manny Diaz and staff have told non early-enrollee freshmen, such as Dani Dennis-Sutton and Abdul Carter, via Zoom sessions:
“Hey, you guys are only 15 days behind the guys who are on campus right now. We can overcome 15 days.”

Manny Diaz on DE Adisa Isaac, who was sidelined for all of last season:
“He just has some things you can’t teach. In terms of athleticism, his ability to bend, turn the corner, his length… We’re excited to see him grow in his role every day.”

What has been a major difference for Manny Diaz between head coaching and positional coaching?
“Getting to have guys that you get to really pour into every day and teach… You try to do that as a head coach but there’s a barrier. It’s just not the same.” pic.twitter.com/ACFfldmVQ8
