Here's what James Franklin said after Penn State's loss to Iowa
Penn State lost to Iowa 41-21 on Saturday afternoon, moving the Nittany Lions to 0-5 for the first time in program history.
Both quarterbacks who played for Penn State on Saturday struggled at times. Will Levis was accurate, but didn’t move the ball down field much. Sean Clifford was explosive, but also threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter.
This loss continues a concerning trend for coach James Franklin. This was Penn State’s third home loss of the season, and each of them have come by double digits.
Franklin is now 56-28 in just over six seasons as Penn State’s head coach.
Here’s what Franklin had to say after the game:
Franklin on the team's morale amid adversity: "It's been challenging, there's no doubt about it. This is where we're at, this is what we're dealing with."

Franklin said the change from Clifford to Levis was of course…. turnovers. Going back to Clifford for Levis in the third quarter was because of…. turnovers.

Franklin on the quarterback position: "It is a concern. We'll continue to work with those guys this week. Roberson has not been available."

Franklin on going for it on fourth down: "I'm doing everything I possibly can to inject some confidence and inject some momentum in the offense."

Franklin on the job he's done: "It's not good enough."

"We got in this situation together, we're gonna get out of this situation together," Franklin added.

Franklin: "The story of the game is you can't turn the ball over. That's been the story of the season. Turnovers."

Franklin notes -as you could sort of tell by his absence on the field- that Devyn Ford wasn't available.

Franklin: "We gotta find a way through it. We gotta be creative. We gotta be efficient. … We're out a number of guys and have been. … At the end of the day the guys we put on the field we have to put them in a position to be successful."
— Audrey Snyder (@audsnyder4) November 22, 2020
Franklin on his offensive line: "We knew running the ball against this team was going to be difficult…we weren't able to do it consistent enough."
— Onward Sports (@OnwardStSports) November 22, 2020
Franklin on Ciarrocca: "We're not playing well enough in all three phases: offense, defense, and special teams."
