The beginning of the 2022 NFL Draft Thursday night turned into an onslaught of wide receiver picks early on. That also led to a near-historic selection of Penn State’s Jahan Dotson.

At one point, Ohio State’s Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave combined with Alabama’s Jameson Williams to come off the board at picks No. 10, 11 and 12, respectively. Dotson was not far behind, landing with the Washington Commanders as the No. 16 pick in the draft.

With that selection, Dotson becomes the highest-drafted receiver out of Penn State since all the way back in 1984, per Matt Brown with The Athletic. In 1984, Kenny Jackson was drafted No. 4 overall by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Though playing in a different era, Jackson underwhelmed in the NFL with 2,170 receiving yards and 11 TDs across 8 NFL seasons. Hopefully Dotson is able to hit the ground running playing for Washington.
