James Franklin made it very clear where he stands on quarterback Sean Clifford after a Week 9 win. With the Nittany Lions bouncing back in a dominant White Out game, Franklin said he is “proud of Sean” and his performance.

Franklin went on to call Clifford a “battler,” “resilient,” and “tough” and noted he played well after the struggles during the loss to Michigan. As for Drew Allar, Franklin was still happy the game allowed Penn State to get the freshman QB some reps in.

When asked about fan reaction to Clifford — particularly some early boos as the offense struggled — Frankling failed to address those reactions. The head coach said he has “no reaction” to those type of things.

Now, it’s time to see if Clifford can follow this up with another good outing in Week 9 against a tougher opponent. Ohio State comes to Happy Valley for another key battle between those two teams, and Clifford will need to be at the top of his game in that one.
