James Franklin saw his Penn State team knock off Purdue 49-10 on Saturday to move to 9-1 on the season. It was a dominant performance, as quarterback Drew Allar was 17-of-19 for 247 yards and 3 touchdowns.

His favorite target all year has been tight end Tyler Warren, and that didn’t change on Saturday. Warren finished with 8 catches for 127 yards and 1 touchdown.

After the game, the Penn State coach talked about where he thinks Warren should be when it comes to the Heisman Trophy.

“I’ve stated it earlier in the year, I’ve stated it tonight,” Franklin said. “I think Tyler Warren should be a part of all the conversations that deal with the best football player in college football. I don’t think it’s a question, and that’s all those types of awards, including the Heisman. Yessir.”

On the season, Warren has 59 catches for 681 yards and 4 touchdowns. One thing Warren does have on his resume is a Heisman Trophy-worthy performance. During his game against USC earlier in the season, he had 17 catches for 224 yards and a touchdown in the 33-30 overtime victory.

The 17 catches tied an FBS record for tight ends, and is the second most for any player in Penn State history.

The Nittany Lions have 2 more games left against Minnesota and Maryland, and are in prime position to make the College Football Playoff.
