James Franklin discusses Penn State's string of White Out blowouts
James Franklin and the Penn State Nitttany Lions picked up a 35-6 win against the Washington Huskies during their yearly White Out game. The “White Out” is 1 of the more popular traditions in college football, and the team has been dominant in the last editions of the game.
Last season, the Nittany Lions defeated Iowa 31-0, while defeating Minnesota 45-17 in 2022. In the last 3 White Out games, Penn State has outscored those opponents 111-23.
On Monday, Franklin talked about the team’s success in those games and said the crowd played a huge role as expected:
“I do think part of the reason the games have been a little bit lopsided is because of the crowd and because of the environment,” Franklin said. “That plays a factor, home-field advantage is a real thing, and that’s the White Out.”

However, it’s also worth noting Penn State has not faced more traditional rivals Michigan and Ohio State in the White Out recently. Part of that has to do with matchups against those two teams regularly getting featured in FOX’s “Big Noon” time slot with the White Out traditionally reserved for a game in primetime under the lights.
The Nittany Lions are currently 8-1 on the season, with their lone loss being to Ohio State 2 weeks ago. Despite that loss, the team is in great shape when it comes to the College Football Playoff race. Penn State also has a chance at playing in the B1G Championship but needs either Indiana or Oregon to lose to have a shot at that.
Up next for Penn State is a road game at Purdue. Kickoff in that game will be 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will be on CBS.
