James Franklin was thrilled to see his Penn State team respond so well after star quarterback Drew Allar was forced to leave Saturday night’s game at Wisconsin with an injury.

Allar went to the locker room just before halftime after he landed awkwardly while getting sacked on Penn State’s last series of the 2nd quarter. He was back on the field for the 2nd half wearing a brace around his left knee, but Allar did stay on the sideline for the rest of the night as backup Beau Pribula helped lead the 3rd-ranked Nittany Lions to a 28-13 victory that kept them undefeated.

So the end result was great in Madison, but what about Allar’s status and that titanic showdown this Saturday against No. 4 Ohio State in Happy Valley? Franklin shed some light on that and why Allar was pulled in the postgame press conference.

“I’m not going to get into a whole lot of medical stuff right now, especially when I don’t have a whole lot of information,” said Franklin. “It was, is he going to be mobile enough to give us a chance to run the offense the way we need to run the offense?”

Franklin went to Allar during halftime for a heart-to-heart talk.

“I asked him to be very, very honest with me,” Franklin said. “He just didn’t feel like he was going to be able to move well enough to go.”

Franklin also said that even throwing would have been a challenge for Allar in the 2nd half.

As for the Week 10 collision between Big Ten behemoths, we’ll have to wait and see how things go for Allar as this week moves forward.
