Penn State is gearing up for its first trip to Minneapolis since 2013, and head coach James Franklin knows it will not be an easy task.

The Nittany Lions entered a Week 10 bye riding a perfect 8-0 record. Behind a strong running game, dynamic play from QB Sean Clifford, and a strong defense, Penn State is looking for a strong November to cap the season.

For PJ Fleck and Minnesota, they are also an undefeated 8-0 behind a similar formula. The Gophers have a strong running attack and have come up with some late drives and clutch plays heading into November.

After Tuesday’s practice in the bye week, Franklin addressed the looming showdown next weekend. He praised Fleck’s work as a coach and Minnesota’s ability to find a way to win.

Onward State Sports shared Franklin’s comments:

Franklin also admitted he hasn’t been to Minnesota, but he’ll show the team photos of the facilities in preparation for the trip:

The last time these two played was in Happy Valley during 2016 with Penn State winning 29-26 over a Tracy Claeys-led Gophers squad. The last showdown in Minnesota came in 2013 when Bill O’Brien and Jerry Kill were the head coaches.

Kickoff for next Saturday’s game is set for 12 pm EST on ABC.
