James Franklin is moving forward with Penn State without offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich. News broke Sunday that the OC was being let go after another disappointing performance in a big-game loss to Michigan.

As a part of the announcement, Franklin revealed that Ja’Juan Seider and Ty Howle will hold the interim OC duties together. Part of that stems from the two already holding co-OC titles.

“Obviously we made a tough decision that we feel like was in the best interest of our program moving forward. Obviously, there’s going to be some questions and I’ll answer some questions, but would like to spend as much time talking about our opponent this week as possible,” said Franklin.

When discussing the specifics of Seider and Howle, Franklin said play calling will be determined throughout the week but both will play a role on game day:

“Both Ja’Juan and Ty already had the co-OC title, so that made sense. They both have the co-coordinator title,” Franklin explained. “Those two guys will be handling the game planning as well as the offensive staff, and that’s literally what I just walked out of… I think we’re a little more collaborative right now than we have been recently, and I think that’s good.

“In terms of play calling, we’re going to work that kind of out during the week and on game day but they will both have a role in play calling.”

During his press conference, Franklin was asked if the decision was ultimately his to make, and the head coach confirmed it was.

“This was my decision but obviously I don’t do anything in a silo,” said Franklin. “I run things up the ladder and have conversations, but this was my decision.”
