James Franklin praises Penn State fans for raucous environment: 'It's like nothing in all of sports'
James Franklin asked Penn State fans to bring “White Out energy” to Saturday’s game against Illinois, and they delivered.
The Nittany Lions were in a tight one throughout the evening, but they eventually came away with a 21-7 lead after touchdowns in the third in fourth quarters while keeping the Illini scoreless. The Illini was held to just 219 yards of total offense while the Nittany Lions ran for 239 yards.
It wasn’t an official White Out game — that’s reserved for Nov. 9 against Washington — but that didn’t mean the atmosphere was less thrilling, according to Franklin.
“That was a phenomenal environment,” Franklin said. “We thought the fans had seven impacts on the game, seven plays, whether it was timeouts, whether it was false starts and penalties, whether it’s bad snaps … It’s like nothing in all of sports, let alone college football.”
Beaver Stadium has been regarded as one of the toughest home fields in all of college football, and Nittany Lions fans delivered much more. They’ll look to go 5-0 as UCLA comes to Happy Valley in Week 6.
