James Franklin provides hopeful injury update on WR Harrison Wallace III
James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions are preparing to take on the Oregon Ducks in the Big Ten Championship Game. The Nittany Lions are in the game for the first time since 2016 and are looking for their 2nd conference title under Franklin.
Ahead of that game, Franklin provided an injury update on wide receiver Harrison (Trey) Wallace III. The team’s leading WR, Wallace missed the regular season finale against Maryland with an undisclosed injury. Wallace was on the field and in pads for warmups, but never suited up against the Terrapins.
Franklin provided a hopeful update on Wallace as the team gets ready for Oregon:
“Trey tweaked something during the week and was not able to go, but we’re hopeful he’ll be able to go this week,” said Franklin during Sunday’s B1G Championship teleconference. “Too early to tell, but was unable to go this past week.”
Franklin saying Wallace “tweaked” something certainly makes it seem like the injury isn’t serious. That’s a good thing because the Nittany Lions are going to need all the reinforcements they can get ahead of the Big Ten Championship Game.
Wallace is the leading WR on the team in 2024. The Alabama native has 35 catches for 579 yards and 3 touchdowns. Only tight end Tyler Warren has been a more productive pass-catcher than Wallace for the team.
Luckily for the Nittany Lions, the team was able to blow out Maryland without their top WR. Omari Evans stepped up in Wallace’s absence, catching 4 passes for 49 yards.
The Nittany Lions and Ducks will kick off from Indianapolis on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.
