James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions picked up a huge road win against USC on Saturday, defeating the Trojans by a score of 33-30 in overtime.
There were many big performances by Penn State players in the win, but nobody’s topped the game that tight end Tyler Warren produced.
The senior tight end finished with 17 catches for 224 yards and a touchdown. The catches tied an FBS-record for most catches ever by a tight end in a single game and is a program record for Penn State, while the yards were the 2nd most in Penn State history.
After the game, Franklin talked about the performance of the senior tight end.
“Obviously, a big story in the game is the Ty Warren, 17 catches, 224 yards and a score,” Franklin said. “It is a school record for tight ends, and the second most yards ever by a Penn State football player. That doesn’t even count what he is doing in the running game, and he’s got a pass. What he is doing blocking. I have been talking about him being the best tight end in college football. But now, he is in the conversation being one of the best players in all of college football.”
The Nittany Lions figure to move up in the rankings with Ohio State and Oregon battling in Eugene. Penn State will be off next week before traveling to Madison to take on Wisconsin.
