James Franklin releases statement on retirement of longtime member of Penn State staff
Penn State and head coach James Franklin are losing a longtime piece of the staff to retirement.
On Friday, the program announced that Dwight Galt III was retiring from his post as Assistant AD, Performance Enhancement. Over the years, Galt has played a role in the development of some elite athletes with the program, including Saquon Barkley, Miles Sanders, Jahan Dotson, KJ Hamler and others.
Shortly after the announcement, Franklin put out a statement regarding Galt’s departure:
“Today is bittersweet as we congratulate Dwight Galt on his retirement after a tremendous career of service, influence and impact,” wrote Franklin in a statement on Twitter. “The last 11 years, he has been a keystone of our staff and my right-hand man. As good of a coach as Deege is, he is an even better man and he has been a father figure to so many of our guys throughout our time together…Congrats on your retirement, Deege, and thank you!”

While Galt heads to retirement after a successful career, Franklin is left looking for another key piece to fill on his staff for 2022. Fortunately, he was able to fill the DC vacancy left behind by Brent Pry with ex-Miami head coach Manny Diaz.
